Around 50 people attended the Monday, September 23 showing of Unlikely. This included several students and guests from the University of Detroit Mercy and Wayne State University. Many of the guests were here because the showing was sponsored by ReBUILDetroit and UD Mercy and WSU are two of our partners in the grant.

The movie was positively received. One student comment was a suggestion that we create more tours to let students know about HFC services similar to ones depicted to help support students in the movie. We could publicize our existing tours in response or teachers could take students on a tour of campus- especially in courses that may have more first generation college students. One teacher comment indicated that many professionals in higher education know many of the challenges faced by higher education students and recommended we communicate more with external stakeholders to address inequities in the US higher education.

The CTEI sponsored a concession stand during the showing that raised $55 which was divided between the Black Male & QUEENS Focus Group and the Hawk’s Nest food pantry. Anyone wishing to support either group with monetary support can do so through the college foundation. Mandy Earl in M-105 (Student Activities Office) can also accept contributions for the food pantry.
